Wild Olympic Update: Granlund Scores, USA Soars

It is day two of the Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Every Wild player has taken part in one game, and their teams are a combined 3-0. Lets take a look at how the players did:

  • Nino Niederreiter appeared to have scored the game winning goal with seven seconds left for Switzerland yesterday, but the goal was eventually given to Simon Moser. The Swiss won the game 1-0 over Latvia, and Niederreiter player 16:53 while registering four shots on goal. The next game for Niederreiter and Switzerland is tomorrow vs Sweden at 6:30 AM CDT.
  • In a surprisingly high scoring game on both sides, it was Finland defeating Austria 8-4 early this morning for those of us watching here in the States (2:00 AM start time). Mikael Granlund carried over his solid play, by registering a team high three points (two goals, one assist) while getting top line minutes (to be technical, Granlund had 18:18 of ice time) with Teemu Selanne and Aleksander Barkov. Guessing that Team Finland will be riding their bikes to the arena once again tomorrow against Norway (11:00 AM CDT start).
  • With many publications picking them to win the tournament, Team USA came out booming today with a 7-1 rout of a sluggish looking Slovakia team. Zach Parise (also known as Captain America or The Iron Patriot) did not have any points or a shot on goal in 17 minutes of ice time. Ryan Suter also was held scoreless and did not have a shot on goal, but he was a +2 and only skated 19:46 today. Someone better ask if Suter is ok (sarcasm, Suter normally plays 29 minutes a night). The United States gets to play the host country, Russia, on Saturday with a 6:30 AM CDT start time.
