As part of the trade with Buffalo that brought noted goal scorer Matt Moulson to the Wild yesterday, the team also received center Cody McCormick as part of the deal. McCormick is now in his 10th NHL season, as he as previously been with Colorado and Buffalo before being dealt to Minnesota.
A look at the stat sheet will pretty much tell you what you need to know about Cody McCormick. He registers as a tough guy. Someone with size and grit, and someone who is willing to drop the gloves to send a message to the opposition. In his 10 NHL seasons, McCormick has registered 503 penalty minutes, including a career high back in 2010-11 with 142.

Besides the grit and toughness he will bring to the lineup, McCormick is known for always playing the game "hard", which was described by Matt Moulson, the player he came to Minnesota with.
One should not expect many games from Cody McCormick in a Wild uniform, but you can bet he will get inserted into the lineup against teams who are already out of playoff contention (Edmonton, NY Islanders) and perhaps a start against a good physical team such as St. Louis.
Contract wise, McCormick is in the final year of his deal which was a $1.25M cap hit against the club. He is an unrestricted free agent at season's end. On the active roster McCormick will wear the uniform number eight, which has not been re-issued since the departure of Brent Burns in 2011.
