Born: September 29, 1990
Birthplace: Lakeville, Minnesota
Acquired: Signed a two year, two-way contract on July 11, 2014.
On July 11, Minnesota announced a pair of signings. The first was the re-signing of defenseman Jon Blum, and the second was the signing of Jordan Schroeder to a two year two-way contract. Schroeder previously spent his NHL/AHL career with the Vancouver Canucks organization.
As most Minnesotans remember, Schroeder spent two seasons playing for the University of Minnesota. He played with some mixed results and left the program following his sophomore season, signing an entry-level contract with Vancouver.
During his time in Vancouver, Schroeder never truly lived up to his expectations. He was drafted in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, and was expected to put up points despite his small size. It was something he never did, and the Canucks granted him his release this summer.
Schroeder is a depth forward for the Wild. Most of his time this next year could come in Iowa, but he could see some time in the bottom six should the Wild need an injury call-up during the year. Minnesota looks to roll with four scoring lines this upcoming season, and Schroeder would be a good fit in the bottom six to that kind of system.
As part of his two year contract, Schroeder will make $100,000 (AHL)/$600,000 (NHL) in the first year and $125,000 (AHL)/$600,000 (NHL) in the second year (Source: Capgeek).
