Jason Zucker
Forward
Born: January 16, 1992
Height: 5'11" Weight: 185
Shoots: Left
2012-13 Team: Houston (AHL)/Minnesota (NHL)
Acquired: 2nd round pick (59th overall) in 2010 NHL Draft
Previous Rank: 4
Jason Zucker really had an up and down season with the Wild last year. He scored 19 goals with Houston before getting the call up from the Wild in mid February. Zucker scored three goals in his first five games with the Wild, and made a serious case to be on the team for the remainder of the year.
Sadly, Zucker struggled for the next four weeks and was sent back to Houston after seeing his role diminished to the fourth line or healthy scratch duties. Zucker was recalled two weeks later and played out the remainder season with the Wild, including the playoffs.
Zucker possesses great breakout speed (which can be best exemplified in his first career NHL goal), something the team is in dire need of. Another thing Zucker does well is fire the puck on net from literally anywhere in the zone (to quote Mike Greenlay, "Any shot is a good shot."), which sometimes can take a goalie by surprise.
Heading into 2013-14, Zucker is one of many young Wild players to be battling for a spot on the roster. If he should miss the roster, he will be one of the first call ups from Iowa in the event of injury/player underperforming.
