A Guide For Wild Fans When Playing The Jets

Tomorrow marks the third all time meeting between the Wild and Jets, since the team returned to Winnipeg. There has just been one previous meeting between the two at Xcel Energy Center, and it was a 4-3 shootout win for the Jets back in February 2012.

But something that has been noticed at Xcel Energy Center during the Jets games (counting the one regular season matchup in 2012 and the preseason tilt last month), is the fact that Wild fans are getting outgunned by the several hundred (or possibly thousand) Jets fans that make their way down to St. Paul.

Jets fans have been loud, whereas Wild fans tend to just sit and do nothing. Now are we really going to allow this? No.

So for those going to the game tomorrow night, here is a guide as to what to do/say when Jets fans get going:
  • When Jet fans start chanting "Go Jets Go", DO NOT respond by simply booing. That's the worst comeback...ever. Respond with a chant of "Lets Go Wild". Its not great, but its still better than just booing.
  • Jet fans are notorious for heckling the opposition goalie. Return the favor. Start chanting "Paaaaaaaavelec! Paaaaaaaavelec!" at their goaltender (assuming Pavelec is starting for Winnipeg). Otherwise, you will just have Jet fans chanting "Haarrrrrrding! Haarrrrrrding!" tomorrow night. And who wants to see the home team's goalie get heckled like that?
  • Don't just sit there and do nothing. Yell when there is a hit. Cheer for a good save. Just make noise throughout the game! And please for the love of god do not yell "SHOOOOOOT!" when the Wild are on the power play. My god people that is annoying.
  • If you see a Jet fan wearing this jersey, give them a hard time. Selanne did not wear that jersey. He wore this one.
The Jets have a distinct home ice advantage. Their fans give that to them. Wild fans once had this too. But we all got complacent and  just prefer to sit there and do nothing, which gives back some of the home ice advantage.

We are the Team of 18,001, residing in the State of Hockey. Lets freaking act like it.

    1. Gods I hate hearing that. Yay, the NHL is back in Winnipeg. Please don't thank the people who made it so that the average person can't afford to go to a professional hockey game with their family. The Wild might have some lackluster fans, but at least it's affordable to go to a game there.

    2. Supply and demand dictates what can be charged. They have no problem selling out, it must be affordable then one would presume.

    3. Oh boo hoo- you can't afford it! Look NHL hockey isn't food, water, or shelter - it's ENTERTAINMENT. If you can't afford it, then keep it to yourself. No one cares about your financial problems. GO JETS GO!!!!!

  31. 39 comments and 1 of them was from a Wild fan? I think they just need to admit that obviously Manitoba loves hockey more than Minnesota :P Maybe it has to do with the fact that you can pay for fuel in your car, a cheap hotel room, and a lower bowl ticket to watch the Jets play in St. Paul for less money than getting a upper deck ticket at MTS Centre.

  42. Dear Mr. Ferrell & the other residents of our esteemed hockey neighbors to the South:

On behalf of Winnipeggers, Jets fans, and Canadian hockey fans; we sincerely apologize that “Wild fans are getting outgunned by the several hundred (or possibly thousand) Jets fans that make their way down to St. Paul.”

We would normally be the quiet unassuming Canadians the rest of the world expects; but fueled by beer (even the weakened brew of the South) and the smell of the ice; Jets fans are loud. Wild fans tend to just sit and do nothing, and that is absolutely the right thing to so. Please, do not stoop to our level and cheer for your team with zest and fervor.

So for those Jets fans travelling to games in St. Paul, M, here is a guide as to what to do/say when Wild fans react to us:
    • When Wild fans chant "Lets Go Wild" (which is not great); chant “GO JETS GO” even louder, possibly even while standing. It may make them go back to just lamely saying boooo.
    • When heckling the opposition goalie, and they respond in kind, try adding any version of insult toward the opposing goalie’s mother. Up the ante people!
    • Always chant, “ref you suck” when the Wild is on power play.
    • And lastly, if you are a Jet fan wearing this jersey, and they give you a hard time, be polite and ask them if they are wearing a cup before punching them in the junk. Selanne might play for the Ducks, but he’s a Jet at heart and he belongs on any jersey
The Jets have a distinct home ice advantage. Be sure to also give them a visiting ice advantage.
We are the Team that made a heroic comeback in after 15 years. Let’s freaking act like it.

Jets fans got their team back and are considered the "best" fans now. I hope in a few years you guys are still considered the "best".

    I doubt you will be.
    Go Wild!
    PS what is 1812?

    Replies
    1. As a Jets 1.0 and 2.0 fan. I too wonder what it will be like in a few years. I hope that fan support doesn't fall off. But its easy for us to say that won't happen. I'm sure a lot of Wild fans thought the same thing.

Hopefully this rivalry works out between the Jets and Wild. It will be great to have one and I look forward to the friendly jabs.

The person that made the 1812 comment is referring to a war between that the US and the British colony called Canada. Canada won the war however historians still argue who won.

      Go Jets Go!!

      Delete
    2. It was a war where Britain beat the US but Canada likes to take credit for it.

For the record, I'm from Canada.

    3. In 1814, during the War of 1812, the White House was set ablaze by British troops during the Burning of Washington, in retaliation for burning Upper Canada's Parliament Buildings in the Battle of York; much of Washington was affected by these fires as well. Only the exterior walls remained, and they had to be torn down and mostly reconstructed because of weakening from the fire and subsequent exposure to the elements, except for portions of the south wall.

  49. I concede that in a few years if a few new markets get teams (or get teams back) such as Seattle or Quebec City that they might be considered the new "best fans" but I can guarantee that none of their fans will be louder than our fans in OUR building.

    1812 is a history lesson.

When your "Josh" comes into our building - we chant "Josssssshhhhhh"....we do this because, on average, we are so knowledgeable about hockey that we know the FIRST name of every goalie in the NHL - not just the one that is in plain view on the back of a jersey!
