215 lbs
Shoots: Left
Born: October 11, 1988
Birthplace: Snowflake, Manitoba
Acquired: Signed a one year, two-way contract on August 1, 2014

On August 1st, the Wild brought back defenseman Justin Falk, signing him to a one year two-way contract. The deal is worth $700,000 for Falk if he plays in the NHL. Falk spent parts of four seasons with the Wild from 2009-2013 before being traded to the New York Rangers for the 2013-14 season.

If you are trying to understand why the Wild brought back Falk, lets just hope the answer was "for minor league depth". Since his debut in 2009, Falk has been one of the worst possession defenseman in the league. And if you are in the "he brings grit to the team" category, there is no amount of grit that can make up for his poor possession stats.

Falk is big, coming into the year at six foot five inches tall but he is not an overly great skater. He mainly plays the role of the tough defenseman, but he has issues doing that at times when on the ice. He does not inspire much offensively (17 career points in 129 NHL games) either.

The Wild are much better off just keeping Falk in Iowa this upcoming year. But given how much they value grit at times, there is a good chance we will see Falk for a few games in 2014-15.

Welcome back to the Team of 18,001 Justin Falk!
