Review
Ballard's first season back in Minnesota saw him limited to just 45 games after suffering multiple injuries throughout the season. When Ballard was healthy enough to play, he was on the third defensive pairing along side Clayton Stoner or Nate Prosser, depending on who was healthy at the time. After spending last season in Alain Vigneault's doghouse, the change of scenery was good for Ballard, but again it was injuries that limited him this year. Ballard was out for a majority of the postseason, but was able to make into the Chicago series for the final three games.
Highlights
Status for 2014-15
With a cap hit of $1.5 million, Ballard is under contract next year. He is a UFA the following summer, and with the crop of defenseman coming up the pipeline, 2014-15 could be his last here. Not exactly what everyone loves to hear considering he is a former Gopher, but when you are at the age of 31 your best days are probably behind you.
