A New Face In The State of Hockey: Pontus Sjalin

Pontus Sjalin
Defenseman
Shoots: Left
6'0"
168 lbs
Born: June 12, 1996
Birthplace: Sweden
Acquired: Drafted in the 6th round (160th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft

With the first of their three sixth round picks in the draft, the Wild selected little known Pontus Sjalin, a defenseman from Sweden.

Sjalin spent the last couple of seasons for Ostersunds IK, playing for their various junior teams. He is slated to play for Leksand in the Swedish Hockey League next fall.

According to Wild Assistant GM Brent Flahr, only them and another team had any idea of Sjalin. Since he is pretty unknown, there is not much you can say about him. You can take a guess at his skills given how the Wild have drafted recently (solid two way player, good skater, very intelligent).

Despite being unkown, Sjalin does have a Twitter and can be followed @pSjalin.

Welcome to the Team of 18,001 Pontus Sjalin!
